In contrast to the northern governorates, no Flora is available so far for the southern governorates of Yemen: Lahj, Aden, Abyan, Shabwa, Hadhramout and Al-Mahra. Diversity and distribution of their vascular plants are much less known, in spite of the significance of the flora of the southern governorates for the understanding of the phytogeography of the entire region. Research in the frame of a Yemeni-German cooperation therefore aims at inventoring this flora, clarifying phytogeographical relationships and finally leading to a vascular plant Flora for or also covering the southern governorates.
